Business phones over your internet connection, hosted in New Zealand

Keep your numbers, drop the line rental, and answer the office phone from anywhere. Installed in one visit, with the old line kept live as a fallback until you are comfortable.

Key features

What a hosted phone system gives a small office

Voice over IP sends calls over your internet connection instead of a copper line. Copper is being switched off across New Zealand anyway, so the question is not whether to move but what to move to.

For a small business the gains are practical: the main number rings the right people, staff answer from home or the ute, a new hire is a five minute add, and the monthly bill is one predictable number. We have installed enterprise-grade VoIP for Auckland businesses since 2015 and it is the service clients thank us for most, because the phone bill drop is visible.

Phones are part of the network now

Call quality depends on the firewall prioritising voice, the Wi-Fi being stable and the internet connection being right. Because the same technicians look after your firewall and Teams, the phone system is set up as part of the whole, not bolted on by a telco.

The method

How a phone system goes in

The same sequence every time, whether it is a dead laptop or a full server replacement.

  1. 1

    Count and check

How many users, how many concurrent calls, what internet connection you have. VoIP needs a stable connection more than a fast one; we test it first.

  2. 2

    Design the call flow

Who rings when the main number is called, what happens after hours, where the 0800 goes. Drawn on one page and agreed.

  3. 3

    Port the numbers

We lodge the port with your current provider. Typical lead time is 5 to 10 working days. Nothing changes for callers until cutover.

  4. 4

    Install and train

Handsets on desks, apps on phones, a 15 minute walkthrough. Cutover happens at a quiet time and the old line stays live as a fallback for a week.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Straight answers. If yours is not here, ask it and we will add it.

How much does a VoIP phone system cost in NZ?

A monthly fee per user that usually includes national calling, plus a one-off for handsets and install. For a 10-person office it typically lands well under what the same business pays in line rental and calls today. Our VoIP cost savings post has a worked comparison.

Will call quality be worse than a landline?

Not on a decent connection. Fibre or good VDSL with a router that prioritises voice traffic gives clearer calls than copper did. We test the connection before quoting and configure the firewall so voice gets priority over someone's YouTube.

Can we keep our existing phone numbers?

Yes, including 0800 numbers. Porting is standard in New Zealand and we manage it. The number moves at an agreed time and the old service is cancelled after.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Calls automatically divert to mobiles or another number you nominate, and the mobile app keeps working on 4G. A landline in the same situation is simply dead.

Should we use Microsoft Teams as our phone system?

If staff already work in Teams all day and you have Microsoft 365 Business licences, Teams Phone is a tidy option. If you have a front desk with call queues and physical handsets, a hosted PBX is usually simpler and cheaper. We run both and will recommend the one that fits, not the one with a better margin. Taking calls now

Something broken?
Say so.

One number. A person picks up. Remote fix first, on-site the same day if it needs hands. You only pay for the time used.
